Did you know that the San Bernardino County Fire Department has a K-9 Support Dog Program that assists team members with mental health therapy?

Being a first responder can often be very stressful, whether it's caused by traumatic/critical incidents or extremely long shifts. Through a partnership with Working Dogs for Warriors, the fire department regularly trains the dogs twice a month to ensure they are in top form. The dogs are also used for community events, presentations and other supportive functions.

“Increasing mental health awareness and supporting our employees is paramount," said Assistant Chief Jeff Birchfield. "The K9 Support Program is just one way we are aiming to help. Besides the support to our internal customer, we look forward to assisting our partner agencies and citizens in their time of need.”
