Department of Aging & Adult Services Warns Amazon Devices May Share WiFi
San Bernardino County’s Department of Aging and Adult Services is warning owners of all Amazon devices (including Alexa, Echo, Tile Trackers, Ring Security Cameras and Ring Smart Lighting) that a new program called Amazon Sidewalk will allow individuals outside of your home to use your WiFi.
“This type of program may put your personal privacy and security at risk,” states the warning. “Scam predators look for these opportunities to access your personally identifiable information and through this program, your entire neighborhood may be at risk.”
The department recommends that individuals open their Alexa app, and then click on More > Settings > Account Settings > Amazon Sidewalk, and then turn the app off.
