Congratulations to Victorville Police Department Deputies Meagan McCarthy and Edward Oliveros on receiving the Sheriff's Medal of Meritorious Award for their work for autism awareness.

According to the department, "In April 2019, Deputy McCarthy took on a personal mission to collect hundreds of patches from law enforcement agencies across the country. It was a patch drive for an autistic man who befriended her on social media. This drive led Meagan to advocate for an Autism Awareness patch.

"Deputy Oliveros designed the patch, which has also been made into a challenge coin and a lapel pin. All three items are still sold for fundraising, and, to date, sales of the items have exceeded $20,000."

All proceeds benefit the Inland Empire Autism Society, the largest Autism support charity in the Inland Empire.

Well done, deputies! Thank you for your dedication to autism awareness!
