LifeStream Experiencing Blood Shortage; Local Donations Severely Needed

LifeStream is urging San Bernardino County residents to consider donating blood in the new year. According to Dr. Rick Axelrod, LifeStream’s medical director, “We have less than a 1-day supply of red blood cells available, and several of our hospitals have no type O red blood cells on their shelves. Hospitals will most likely have to cancel elective surgeries and may not have enough blood for severe traumas.”

LifeStream is currently running a Super Bowl promotion in which three randomly picked donors who give blood (up until Jan. 15) will win two tickets to the game on Feb. 13 in Inglewood.

The High Desert Donor Center is at 12520 Business Center Drive, between Industrial Boulevard and Hesperia Road in Victorville. LifeStream’s mobile sites are scheduled for several locations in the Victor Valley and High Desert, including:

• Jan. 6 — Victor Valley College in Victorville. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Jan. 8  — Stater Bros. supermarket in Phelan. 12-4 p.m.
• Jan. 9 — Blessed Junipero Serra Church in Phelan. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
