Old Guest House Museum Shares History of Mining in Trona, Searles Valley Region

Trona's historic Old Guest House Museum, built in 1916, has reopened its doors to the public! The museum offers a fascinating glimpse at mining in the Searles Valley and nearby Death Valley. Today, there are 12 rooms to explore, offering a historical view of early prospectors, gold mining activities, and information about the rare minerals found in Searles Dry Lake. The Gift Shop sells a variety of books about the California desert, postcards, and mineral specimens.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays. Please note that the museum may be closed during the week if a docent is unavailable. For more information, please call (760) 372-5222 or visit them online.
