NBC Spotlights Desert's Illegal Marijuana Grows
June 16, 2021
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department continues to do great work battling illegal marijuana cultivation in our district, most recently seizing over 2,100 marijuana plants on June 3 & 4 in the City of Hesperia. However, with more than 860 suspected illegal operations located throughout San Bernardino County, there is much work to be done.
NBC LA's investigative team recently highlighted the epidemic of illegal marijuana operations plaguing our High Desert communities. The segment includes interviews with San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson and San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Lt. Mark Bracco, along with Assemblymen Thurston "Smitty" Smith and Tom Lackey. The illegal cultivation problem has exploded due to the passing of Proposition 64, which changed growing more than six plants from a felony to a misdemeanor.
Our office will continue to do whatever it takes to eradicate the cartels from our desert communities and make illegal marijuana cultivation once again a felony.
