Fire Explorer

San Bernardino County Fire Department is recruiting Fire Explorers for its First District posts in Needles, Spring Valley Lake, Hesperia and Phelan.

The program is open to youth ages 14-20 with a GPA of 2.5 or more, and is an important part of the County’s “Cradle to Career” program.

According to the department, many local firefighters got their start as Fire Explorers. This unique program offers youth hands-on experience with the mental and physical challenges required to be a firefighter. However, the skills learned during this training is beneficial to any future careers.

Fire Explorers must be prepared to assist firefighters during emergency incidents, volunteer at special events, attend drills twice a month, and practice the skills learned at the Fire Explorer academies and Fire Explorer Muster competition.

Download the application here, and then email it to Captain Jay Hausman.  Additional questions can be directed to Captain Jay Hausman at 951-218-1925.
